Captured: A Photographic Time Capsule of Warkworth

One of the many benefits of living at Warkworth Oaks is its prime location, nestled right in the heart of the picturesque Warkworth village, next to the iconic Warkworth Hotel. The hotel’s Southgate Room frequently hosts community events and displays, and this weekend is no exception, featuring Captured: A Photographic Time Capsule of Warkworth. This unique collection showcases the district’s growth through the lens of a camera, offering a visual journey through time.

Captured: A Photographic Time Capsule of Warkworth will be on display in the Southgate Room at the Warkworth Hotel from October 17 to 19. The event is organised by planner Burnette O’Connor, communications specialist Rachel Callender, Mahurangi Matters editor Jannette Thompson, and One Mahurangi administrator Claire-Marie Blair.

Speaking to Mahurangi Matters, the organisers shared that the idea behind this project is to create a long-term library of images documenting the area’s growth, which will serve as a valuable historical resource for years to come. “Warkworth’s status as a satellite town in the Auckland Plan means the town will see unprecedented growth over the next 30 years. When our neighbourhoods expand to cover the green fields we see around us today, it will be easy to forget that it wasn’t always like that.”

It’s especially fitting that this exhibition takes place in a location as rich in history as the Warkworth Hotel, a cornerstone of the community for generations. Our residents have the unique opportunity to step right out of their homes and into this historical journey, connecting the past, present, and future of the town they call home. It’s a seamless blend of history, art, and convenience that adds to the vibrant lifestyle at Warkworth Oaks.

Adding to the charm of the occasion, the Warkworth Quilting Club will also be presenting some of their beautiful quilts, with contributions from residents of Warkworth Oaks.
